PDFgear's Clarification Addressing Recent Security Concerns

Updated: March 24, 2026

Recently, PDFgear has been the subject of online discussions that include inaccurate or misleading information about our products. We take these matters seriously and would like to provide clear and fact-based clarification.

1. PDFgear is Safe to Use

PDFgear does not contain malware or spyware, nor does it engage in any harmful or deceptive behaviour. Consistent with this, PDFgear installers are regularly scanned by multiple antivirus engines on well-recognised security platforms, and no malware detections have ever been found.

PDFgear is also available on major distribution platforms, including the App Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store. These platforms enforce strict security review processes, and applications with unsafe or non-compliant code cannot pass review or remain listed. The long-term presence across these platforms reflects the proven safety, quality, and reliability of PDFgear products.

To further examine PDFgear’s safety, PDFgear engaged Cure53, an established cybersecurity firm, to conduct an independent review of PDFgear's Windows client behaviors that had been flagged as potentially suspicious by tria.ge, an automated sandbox analysis platform.

Because automated sandbox analysis platforms such as tria.ge rely on heuristic and behavior-based detection mechanisms, certain legitimate software behaviors may sometimes be flagged as suspicious without full technical context. The assessment was therefore intended to independently assess those behaviors, clarify their technical nature, and identify any potential security concerns or areas for improvement.

Over a nine-day period, Cure53 performed detailed testing and technical analysis of the relevant components and behaviors, ultimately concluding in its report published on March 19, 2026, that “no malicious functionality was identified within the analyzed components of the PDFgear Windows client”.
